Lavender Rosemary Shampoo

Now you know I love all things lavender and definitely don't mind giving credit where it's due. All that being said... Here is a recipe on this blog

http://babydustdiaries.com/2012/01/lavender-rosemary-shampoo-recipe/

for Lavender Rosemary Shampoo... I will definitely be giving this a try!

Ingredients:

  • dried lavender flowers 2 heaping tablespoons-full (more or less is fine)
  • 2-3 sprigs fresh rosemary or 2 tablespoons dried rosemary (fresh really works better if you can find it)
  • 2 cups Boiling water
  • 1 cup Pure liquid castile soap
  • 1 tablespoon grapeseed oil, avocado oil, or jojoba oil
  • 10+ drops lavender essential oil
  • funnel
  • stainer
  • old shampoo bottle washed out well

How to:

  1. place lavender and torn up rosemary (stems and all just roughly torn to release the oils) in a large mug or bowl
  2. Boil your water as if you were going to make tea.  Pour over lavender and rosemary and allow to steep for 30 minutes
  3. In the meantime, combine 1 c castile soap (I used lavender because that’s what I had on hand but unscented is fine) with 1 Tbls grapeseed oil and 10 or more drops of lavender essential oil
  4. Pour via funnel into your shampoo bottle.
  5. After steeping, strain still warm lavender/rosemary tea into the bottle via funnel.
  6. Shake up and allow to cool completely before use

To use:

  1. squirt directly onto your scalp (it is very runny) and work into a lather.
  2. rinse and enjoy the scent!
You can also use this a s a body wash... Yummy! I can't wait to try it... I'm sure it smalls divine!

As Always...

Keep those annoying bugs at bay with this recipe featuring Geranium Essential.

It's finally time to enjoy the outdoors as much as possible! Here’s a recipe for a lightly textured oil to smooth over your exposed skin while you're outside, featuring this month's oil, geranium. It's a variation on a typical citronella-based product, but every bit as effective.
4 drops lemon eucalyptus essential oil
4 drops geranium essential oil
4 drops sandalwood or cedarwood essential oil
1 ounce grapeseed oil
Combine essential oils with grapeseed oil and smooth over exposed skin.

We Are Born to Inspire

I am constantly amazed by the strength of  people that I know and even those whom I meet briefly along the way. The things that we go through on a daily basis, be they small annoyances or major life quaking events, all shape us individually.  But the way in which we carry ourselves through life's challenges have the ability to inspire those around us in ways that we may never know... and that too also amazes me. The thought that our actions, be they negative or positive may touch someone and we never have the opportunity of knowing.
The strength of this realization hits me at times and almost makes me light headed with its weight. It grounds me in the knowing that I am not an island! What I do and say... my reactions to whatever I encounter carry great responsibility and also great consequence.

We all are Essential. It is as the subtitle of this blog states... the definition of  Essential:  Constituting or being part of the essence of something; inherent. Let us remember that we are all members of the same body. We all have the ability to inspire. We are born to create and inspire creativity in others. It is not only about creating that which is physical but also the intangible... We inspire thought and action... a new way of Being as well as Doing. Inspiration is the spark that lights the flame of thought. Creativity is thought in motion. Let us re~member this in every moment.

Essential of the Day... Clary Sage

Countries of Origin: America, England, France, Morocco, Russia.

Characteristics: It has sweet, musky, herbaceous top notes and nutty almost floral undertones. It blends well with citruses, and also with lavender, coriander, cardamom, frankincense, jasmine, pine, geranium, cedarwood palmarosa.

Main Therapeutic Properties: Anti-convulsive, anti-depressive, antiseptic, antispasmodic, aphrodisiac, astringent, carminative, digestive, sedative, and numerous others.

According to The Aromatherapy Bible by Gill Farrer-Halls..."Clary sage is the most euphoric of the essential oils, and it can produce an almost drug like narcotic "high". Combined with it's pronounced antidepressant qualities, this euphoria makes it a powerful aid to easing depression, melancholia, anxiety, stress and chronic general dissatisfaction. Overall, Clary sage is intoxicating, sensuous and uplifting.

Trust me, I can attest to the above statements truth! Just the other night I inhaled a mixture of Clary sage and Rosemary before I went to bed(Rosemary is supposed to aid in meditation and clearing the mind... More about Rosemary in a later post.) Not more than a minute with my eyes closed did I begin to feel really relaxed! And then in the next minute... Well...Let me say... between you and me... I felt something in places that I will not mention here. Needless to say... I am a believer!

One of the most valuable essential oils for treating menstrual cramps, clary sage in baths or hot compresses on the abdomen relaxes mind and body, eases pain and it's estrogenic action helps to bring on and regulate menstruation.

Clary sage also helps to treat menopausal symptoms, and can be used, in childbirth in a massage oil during early labor. It is an aphrodisiac, especially good for those who are so stressed that their sexuality has diminished." (What I tell you!)

It is said that it also relieves asthma when massaged over the chest and back, and added to shampoo or massaged into the scalp, it can prevent dandruff and balance sebum levels... beneficial to all skin and hair types. It can also reduce excessive sweating when used in a foot bath or bath.

Gill-Farrer goes on to write: "Psychologically, clary sage is deeply relaxing, euphoric and revitalizing. Used in small quantities, it is a useful aid in meditation, and facilitates dream work by encouraging powerful and vivid dreams. Clary sage helps strengthen subtle energies and divine inspiration."

Contraindications: Avoid throughout pregnancy. Do not use before or after drinking alcohol.

Who needs Viagra and whatever that other artificial female stimulant when you can take a few whiffs of Clary Sage to get your Mojo back? ;)
